The Truckee Rodeo Truckee will be celebrating its 35 years from July 21st
through 26 this year. Rodeo Western Week begins on July 21st with Cowboy Poetry, Kid's Day and Team Penning. On July 25th and 26th, rodeo fans can marvel as the professionals perform at The PRCA Truckee Championship Pro Rodeo at McIver Arena.
On Thursday, July 23rd, Rodeo Western Week will feature Kids Day, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., also at McIver Arena. Admission is free. Hot Dogs will be served for lunch. Western events, just for the kids, will be featured on this day. Each child will receive one adult ticket for mom or dad. Bring two cans of food for Project Mana and receive a $2.00 discount on the purchase of additional adult Rodeo tickets.
On Friday, July 24th, the Team Penning event will take place at McIver Arena on at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. Local 'Cowboys' will match wits with a steer, trying to pen the steers. General admission to this event is free to the public. Dinner will be served, by Truckee's own Smokey's Kitchen, for $20 per person.
Rodeo tickets for Saturday and Sunday performances may be purchased Friday night and will include a $2.00 discount with the contribution of two cans of food for Project Mana.
Saturday, July 25th marks the first day of the professional rodeo. The following seven events are scheduled: Bareback Riding, Bronc Riding, Tie down Roping, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing and Bull Riding. Saturday's performance will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the gates opening at 3:00 p.m.
Directly following the Saturday performance rodeo goers can enjoy an evening dance. This year Northern Heat will be playing as revelers stomp, holler and spin. The dance is free with your rodeo ticket or you can purchase one at the gate for $5.00.
On Sunday, July 26th the professional riders will again perform, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with the gates opening at noon.
