Northstar Resort is host to a new base area village featuring 35 unique shops andNorthstar-at-Tahoe for Families (and kids!) restaurants, a conference center, 9,000 square foot skating rink, on-site lodging, special events and more. Northstar Resort also features 92 ski trails spread across 3,000 acres, terrain parks and snow sports including alpine and Telemark skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and tubing. Summer activities include mountain biking, golfing, scenic lift rides for sightseeing and hiking, horseback riding, fly-fishing and more.


For the 2009/10 season, Northstar Resort continues to make improvements and add amenities throughout the resort that cater to guests looking for the very best in winter mountain destinations. 

Among the family-friendly options at Northstar is the two-for-one kids' tickets.  Children’s single-day lift tickets are valid for two days. These tickets must be used any two out of three consecutive days.   The Parent Predicament Ticket is a great option for parents. For the same price as an adult all-day lift ticket, guests can purchase this ticket and take turns on the slopes. As one parent takes a few runs, the other stays with the child, until it is time to switch.

During the 2009/1Northstar-at-Tahoe Reservations0 ski season, guests will enjoy two new lifts, new snowmaking and grooming capabilities, new beginner teaching area, new teaching programs, 170 room ski-in/ski-out Ritz-Carlton Hotel (scheduled to open December 9, 2009).

The Highlands Gondola, a new fixed grip pulse gondola featuring 8 passenger cabins will provide a direct connection between the Village at Northstar™ and The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe (hotel scheduled to open December 9, 2009), located at mid-mountain at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort.

The Bear Paw double lift accessing the resort’s beginner teaching area has been replaced and realigned. The new fixed grip Northstar-at-Tahoe Reservationsquad chairlift now provides ski-in, ski-out access to and from The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe from the mid-mountain area of Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort and greatly improves access to Northstar Resort’s beginner teaching terrain.

Resort’s beginner teaching area has been expanded and redesigned to include more of the sculpted terrain that the resort has successfully demonstrated helps improve the learning curve for beginning skiers and snowboarders.

New this year, the Burton Snowboard Academy will feature instruction for children under the age of 13. In addition, the Academy will introduce the Northstar Training Lab, a season-long development program that will follow a structured process that supports the foundations, skills and tactics that all riders need to be come creative and push the limits of their riding and the sport.

Northstar Resort will also introduce a new Development Race Team Program that will feature almost 300 hours of ski training. The development race team program is suited for ages 5-18 and trains weekends and school holidays, all day, all season for just $1,199 ($4 per hour).


Parents' Night Out

Friday and Saturday nights in The Village at Northstar offers  "Parents Night Out" child care package for children 4 - 12 year old. Kids get to hang out with Marty the Martian, our life-sized friendly and lovable mascot, have dinner and eat S'mores by the ice rink firepits.  Parent's Night Out is a fun and convenient alternative to at-home babysitting.  The cost is $49 per child. 

With a supervisor ratio of 1 to 5 kids, this program includes dinner and is loaded with outdoor and indoor activities.

Make reservations by phone at 530.562.3470, or in-person at the Season Pass Office or Children's Ski & Snowboard School Center, both located adjacent to the ice skating rink. Space is limited, first-come, first-serve. Please reserve your Parent's Night Out package by 4:30 p.m. the day of your planned night out. 

Kid's Drop off begins at 5:15 p.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. at the Children's Ski & Snowboard School Center.

Supervised Childcare in the Kid's Ski & Board School by staff and instructors (1:5 supervisor to child ratio). Your child's night of fun and activities includes:

  • "Marty the Martian" - our friendly mascot spending time with the kids
  • Dinner - pizza and salad from Rubicon Pizza Company
  • S'mores by the ice rink
  • Outdoor Activities - ice skating, scavenger hunt or bungy jumping (approximately 30 - 45 minutes)*
  • Indoor Activities - kid's games and a movie
