Kings Beach is the largest public beach on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, with nearly 700 feet of lakefront property.  It is also reputed to be one of the warmest swimming beaches, because of its south facing aspect and a lake floor that gradually deepens.

Those that walk, ride bikes or use public transportation are not charged for use of the beach.   If you're driving, you'll pay $7.  Your parking fee goes to a good cause though; revenue from the parking is the sole source of funding to maintain the beach.  North Tahoe Watersports provides parasailing rides, jet ski and kayak rental, and a variety of other water toys to visitors to the Kings Beach State Recreation Area.

Immediately adjacent to the beach and Coon Street Boat Launch is Kings Beach Plaza. (For information about Quagga and Zebra Mussel Inspections:  click here) The Plaza is situated under a canopy of mature Jeffrey Pines and the area boasts an attractive patio style courtyard with meandering walking paths which circle the entire area.  A natural grassy meadow area and split cedar rustic fencing creates a buffer from roadside exposure.  Electricity is available in the courtyard for use during special events, such as  the arts and crafts faires held there during the summer months.  Recently constructed restrooms are available just a short walk down the promenade.  A basketball court is located on the lakefront for pick up basketball games.  Barbecues and picnic areas are available on a first come, first served basis.  A beautiful playground area overlooks the water and is close to picnic tables and restrooms.

The Coon Street Boat Launch is located at the end of Coon Street in Kings Beach.  The facility includes a boat launch ramp (open when lake levels allow), restrooms and parking for vehicles as well as vehicles with trailers.  Parking is limited.  There are separate fees for launching and parking.

This is also the site of the only public dog beach on the North Shore.
