Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino
(map)
Recently we celebrated a family birthday (no, not mine, for I shall remain ageless). We're lucky to have to look no further than our own 'backyard' for a world-class vacation destination. This vacation was one of the most elegant and relaxing we've taken. Our destination: Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino, a splendid Four-Star resort in Incline Village, on Lake Tahoe's North Shore.
Built of sturdy timbers and textured leathers, the Hyatt's rustic elegance transported even this local to a resort vacation, remote from the concerns of daily living. While uniquely intimate, the property is expansive. Built on 26 picturesque lakefront acres with river rock and cedar, it's an alpine adventure unto itself.
Amid the elegance and charm, our family found a 'hidden' point of profound facination. Adjacent to the Stillwater Spa is a door to a small indoor room. It is in this magical room that you can 'secretly' enter the gorgeous swimming pool. A few strokes through the heated swimming pool water, and you're swimming outside.
Our family likes, no truly loves, swimming pools. Quite ironic, given our proximity to the largest alpine lake in North America - 22 miles long, and 12 miles wide, with a surface area of 191.6 square miles, or 39.75 million gallons of water, enough to cover the entire state of California to a depth of 14 inches!
But, back to the pool…
We thoroughly enjoyed the various heated pools and spas at the Hyatt. As if the swimming adventure was not enough, 'the coolest lunch ever', according to our children, was served to us poolside. The Stillwater Pool Bar and Grille adds a true resort feel to the swimming pool area.
The helpful Hyatt staff will provide you with plenty of large plush towels, elegant beach chairs, large umbrellas and friendliness, whether you're poolside or at the beach. Speaking of Hyatt friendliness, Hilario Grossi, Guest Services Director, with his attentive charm, made us feel as if he honestly had nothing better to do than make us comfortable. Hilario, along with the entire Hyatt staff, made each of us, even our children, feel special.
An early dinner, for us, was on the deck of the Sierra Cafe. Gorgeous views of the mountains, and, of course the pool. Sierra Cafe is only one of a number of restaurants to choose from, including, in the rustic main lodge building, Cutthroat's Saloon, with an eclectic menu, live entertainment, sports TV…and a standing invitation to toss your peanut shells on the floor. The Lakeside Beach Bar and Grill, is well, exactly what you might imagine, when you're daydreaming of that perfect beach vacation. Tahoe Provisions is the newest addition to the Hyatt. A Starbucks-like establishment, complete with s'mores kits and wifi. The fine dining at the Lone Eagle Grill, located lakeside, is delightful.
The Hyatt room options are noteworthy. From the 24 lakeside cottages, each with a central living room and outside deck, to spacious guestrooms. The main lodge offers suites, and exclusive Regency Club accommodations, all in the 12-story tower. The Regency Club, for guests staying on upper Regency floors, offers complimentary newspapers, breakfast items and afternoon foods, including pastas and scrumptious desserts.
When all is said and done, you never really have to leave the Hyatt property to find enough to do at Lake Tahoe. (But, if you do leave, Lake Tahoe offers year-round fun.)
