Horseback Riding at Lake Tahoe - Sleighs, Carriages and Wagons Too

Horseback riding at Lake TahoeAt Lake Tahoe, depending upon where you visit and at what time of year, there are several horse-related excursions to enjoy.  There are hourly horseback rides, wagon rides, cozy horse-drawn carriage rides and refreshing horse-drawn sleigh rides. 

At South Lake Tahoe, a local family has delighted visitors, for over 30 years, with horse-drawn carriage rides and Lake Tahoe nostalgia.  Their Carriages are pulled by either beautiful 2,000 pound Blond Belgium horses or one of their rare American- Russian Baskhir Curlies, all of Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides at Lake Tahoewhich have been featured in Pasadena's Tournament of Rose Parade over the past few years.  Your carriage ride will take you past Edgewood Golf Course and through a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. As you travel beside Lake Tahoe, your carriage driver will share with you bits of Tahoe history.  A dinner option is available which includes a gourmet meal at Echo Restaurant upon your return to the Embassy Suites Hotel Lake Tahoe Resort  

In the winter visitors to Lake Tahoe can enjoy horse drawn sleigh rides Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides at Lake Tahoein the snow.  Cuddled under a blanket in one of five handmade sleighs, varying in size from the cozy two-seater to a festive twenty passenger sleigh.

In Zephyr Cove, on Lake Tahoe's east shore, visitors can enjoy one hour ($40) and two hour ($70) trail rides.  Zephyr Cove Stables is open from 9a to 5p 7 days each week, from June until sometime in October, depending upon the weather.  The trail rides depart every half hour, and the operators like to limit each trail ride to 6 or less horses and riders. In addition to the regular trail rides, Zephyr Cove Stables als offers breakfast ($50), lunch ($50) and dinner ($60) trail rides.

Since 1934, cowboys and cowgirls have enjoyed trail rides at Camp Richardson's Corral.  Located just across the road from Camp Richardson Resort, the corral offers one hour trail rides ($36) and two hour trail rides ($70).  Trail rides are offered between 8a and 5p daily beginning in June each year.  At 5:15p each day there's a wagoon ride ($25).  Sometime in October, the trail rides stop, and when the winter snow arrives the corral offers sleigh rides ($25).

In Olympic Valley, Alpine Meadows Stable has been offering trail rides since 1967.  Between from 9a to 6p, between roughly June and October, visitors can take a one hour ($30) or two hour ($50) trail ride.  Kids 5 years old and younger can ride a pony, lead around by an adult, for $5.
