Donner Lake |
From Hwy 89 S, I-80 junction W of Truckee; turn N, go 0.2 mi. to Donner Pass Rd. Go W 1.1 mi., cross freeway to lake and State Park on S side of road.
Rainbows every other week May through August; lake trout. Fingerlings Clear water in forested setting surrounded by houses and other development. Ramp at W end of lake. Donner Lake State Park near E end. Marina, bait & tackle, store, propane, resort. RV sites. Barrier-free access.

Echo Lakes |
From Meyers, on Hwy 50; go W 5 mi. to Little Norway. Turn N on Echo Drive-Echo Summit Rd., go 1.5 mi. to lake.
Rainbows monthly May through July, boat plants to Upper lake. Put-and-grow fingerling cutthroat and rainbow in Lower lake; fingerling rainbow in Upper lake. Pristine water, ice fishing in winter; forested, granite terrain. Marina, bait & tackle, store, propane, resort. No camping. Barrier-free fishing, bathroom, lodging.

Fallen Leaf Lake |
Located in the Tahoe National Forest on the west side of Lake Tahoe, take Fallen Leaf Road near US Forest Service Vistor Centor off Highway 89.
Natural reproducing lake trout populations, attempts by the US Fish and Wildlife Service to re-establish cutthroat trout in the lake. Small reservoir with a heavily forested shoreline, US Forest Service maintains a campgroud on the north end of the lake.

Martis Creek Lake |
From downtown Truckee, off Hwy I-80; go S 4 mi. on Hwy 267 (road to Kings Beach at Lake Tahoe); go past Truckee airport. Just before crossing Martis Creek, turn N to lake.
Martis Lake, a small flood control reservoir located just south of Truckee, was the first designated wild trout lake in California. From the late 1970's through the early 1980's the lake provided angling for trophy-size Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. Due to co A designated wild trout water, check Sport Fishing Regulations. In open terrain, sage brush on slopes. No outboard motors.

Sawmill Pond |
Sawmill Pond is located near South Lake Tahoe, 2.5 miles west of the Y intersection in South Lake Tahoe, California. There is paved access and a paved parking lot. Rainbow trout are stocked early in the season when water temperatures are suitable.

Stampede |
From Truckee, on Hwy I-80; go E 6 mi. to Stampede Dam Truckee Rd. Turn N, go 10 mi. (past Boca Res.) to USFS Rd. 19N69 (Dog Valley Rd.). Turn W, go across dam, 1 mi. to camp.
Lake trout commonly caught.Rainbows June through August. Year around fishing but ice and snow in winter; in high desert sage, some trees around shore. No fires outside campsites. RV sites.

Truckee River |
From Hwy I-80, 1.5 mi. W of Truckee; take Hwy 89 S., go 1 mi.; road follows river upstream to Tahoe City, bike trail along stream. The Truckee River, below Lake Tahoe, has some of the best public access for large trophy brown and rainbow trout in the state. Stream survey results show that the river is rich with insects and forage fish, which makes for a perfect combo to grow large brown trout. Fluctuating, low gradient, rocky stream of long pools and riffles; conifer forest with lots of houses. Check fishing regulations for closure at Lake Tahoe Dam. Barrier-free access at Granite Flat Campground. RV sites.
